You will end up needing glasses very soon if you do not exercise your eyes.
Roll them around, look at something close then something far away. Looking at the same thing for hours and hours damages your eyes.
You should get a job or a girlfriend or hang out with your friends. Go see a movie or something.
But hope your eyes get better.

Your post was very rude, despite your half-assed disclaimer saying it wasn't your intention. He wasn't asking for advice on his social life, he was giving advice on how to help gamers who play often relax their eyes. There was nothing negative about his post, yet sure enough, the inevitable judgment took place when you decided to make a criticism on his current situation, which he was not complaining about, by the way.
To stay on topic and to (hopefully) avoid a flame war in this otherwise-helpful thread, I would like to thank the OP for the advice. Sometimes, I too find myself staring at a computer screen for quite a few hours in a day. While this is not every day, I do not wish to have poor eye sight a few years down the line.
Thanks again.

There is a "quick" remedy for such loss of clarity in eye-sight. Over the summer or some long break period, go off on a vacation away from TV's, Computers, and the like. Your eyes will start to heal from the endless strain a computer puts on them. Afterall this is a temporary, as in not irreversable, problem your eyes may incur.
Also try to stay atleast two feet away from your monitor and, as has been said, take hourly breaks where you can go outside and run or something. Your eyes will thank you.

You must be using an antique LCD then because the new ones don't do that anymore. They fixed the refresh rate problem and now motion blurring and trails are non existent. I've got a fairly new Sony LCD flat panel, it's about a year old actually, and it has no motion blur. It runs at about 16ms I believe.

Also don't play in the dark, turn on some lights or your eyes will be fixated on the screen.

best thing you can do for your eyes is not look at it up close, making your eyes focus on a distance object and then back is a fools tale. it doesnt magicly help your eyes, your eyes re-focus thousands of times a day; think about it.
|
That has been proven by experiments it does prevent eye strain.
If you focus on an object (far or near) for long periods of time it will cause your eyes to get "stuck."
If you stare at something very close you will become near sighted. If you focus on things far away you will become far sighted. Its not a myth its very true.
I could read the clock on my kitchen stove (about an inch high display) about 20 ft away less than 3 years ago. Now that I'm on a computer for about 16 hours of my day I can no longer see at that range. Mainly because I did not know about these types of exersices and the dmg being done to my eyes.

1.Look away from your computer every 45-60 minutes and try to focus on a object 100ft away do this for 5 minutes then try to focus on a object 10ft away do this everyday.
2.move your computer monitor alittle farther back every day or 2 this can also help.
3.Take a Break.
These 2 exocises will help you results are not emmediate of course and could take you up to a year to start seeing any diference but it will help keep your eye sight from worsening.
hope that helps

I've spent most of my life outdoors where more things are far away then close up yet I am partially near sighted.
The biggest eye killer when in comes to monitors and tv's is the radiation they emit. Light is a form of radiation but sometimes objects that emit light also emit other (more damaging) forms of radiation (like UV rays and even x-rays). You can buy screens for your monitor to shield against such radiation. Or you can put on sunglasses but only the kind that block out UV radiation (the cheap kind that only dim light wont work). Remember to blink also. Sometimes when your focused on the game your body will sometimes not subconsiously blink as it should since you are in a shallow hipnotic state. Too much air can damage the eyes so you must keep a consious mind open.

Don't mind him. Some people are rude, and you just have to live with it.
I believe you do bring up a good point. Obviously, computer games aren't the cause of ALL eye problems, but staring at a monitor too long probably is a bad idea. It's not that you're always looking at something near. It's that you're staring at the monitor so intensely during gaming, for prolonged periods of time. The result is what happens when you do something too intensely for too long - it starts to damage your eyes.
Of course, I'm pretty sure there has been no study done to prove this. Still though, if it's hurting, don't you think your body is trying to tell you something? Never hurts to take a break once in a while.

I find that having light on in your room while you play helps a lot with your eyes. A brightly-glowing monitor in complete darkness is very disruptive.
|
That is not an Absolute. It actually makes it worse. CVS or computer vision syndeom is a common problem among computer users. It caused by eye fatigue. There are glasses that help but what really helps is a proper view distance, and the correct lighting. In an enviroment where you use a computer the light should be as much as 80% less that of normal lighting in your room, otherwise your eyes begin to figit and fight glare that you may or may not even notice to start with.
Do A Little research, its a real condition. And Raster Burn does occur, which is the real reason your eyes have that burning sensation, then you couple that with eye fatigue and you get lots of fun things like back pain, neck pain, and headaches.

Yep this info wouldve been useful a few months for me, glasses coming in in a few days, of course now I take breaks as to not worsen my eyes but the damage had already been done. :'(
